The New York Boulders and the New England Knockouts of the Frontier League announced today the teams will host a joint, open-try out in Florida on March 1st and 2nd .

The tryout will be held at the Lawnwood Sports Complex in Fort Piece, FL from 8am-1am each day. Admission is $199 per player. New England joins the Frontier League as an expansion team for the 2024 season. This will be the 13th season of play for the Boulders.

Coaches and scouts from both teams, as well as representatives from the Atlantic League and American Association, are also expected to attend.

In 2024, the Boulders signed pitcher Brandon Backman to their active roster from their spring tryout. Backman was 5-3 with a 4.46 ERA in 17 appearances for the Boulders last season.

Over the course of their 12 seasons the Boulders have signed numerous players from their open try-out camps including Alex Gouin and Joey Donino, both who signed with Arizona Diamondbacks.

“This is an excellent opportunity for any aspiring professional player to have his chance to play professional baseball” said Boulders Team President Shawn Reilly. “The Knockouts are building their roster for their 1st season of play and the Boulders have a history of finding new talent from their try-out camps” Reilly said.

PIONEER LEAGUE

The Pioneer Baseball League (PBL) presented by TicketSmarter announced that it will hold two preseason tryout camps in 2024.

The Florida camp will be held from February 9-11 at Northeast Regional Park in the Orlando area.

The Arizona camp will again be held at Salt River Fields at the Talking Stick Resort – the spring training home of the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks in Scottsdale, AZ from April 16-18.

“We are excited to be holding two camps before the season gets started,” PBL Commissioner Henry Hunter said. “These tryout camps have proven to be a very effective means for talented players to find roster spots in the Pioneer League.”

The camps will be run in conjunction with DS Sports Ventures and PropsectWire, the industry’s leader in baseball camp operations. The pro-style workouts will feature live batting practice, fielding evaluations, bullpen sessions, and live scrimmages. Each club will send representatives to evaluate prospects. At the end of each camp, every team will select at least one player in the PBL Draft.

The camps are open to all players 18 years and older who have fewer than three years of professional experience. Thanks to DSSV and BaseballCloud, each prospect will leave the camp with a full breakdown of their performance throughout the camp.

“We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Pioneer League,” said DS Sports Ventures president Rob Sitz. “2023 was a big first step and we have more big things on the horizon.”

In 2023, over 250 players attended PBL tryout camps, and many were on PBL rosters during the season. Past tryout attendees have also gone on to be signed by MLB clubs.

    1. It’s a winter league. You pay a lot of money, they promise scouts will be there, some guys get signed, most get released during spring training… honestly the same thing that happens everywhere.

    1. Those vary with different league rules. Frontier is 27. The United Shore has an age limit (I think…) and everyone else really doesn’t. The Pecos claims to have one, but older players still play in the league if approved.

  1. Hi Ms. Thompson I’m a ball player with various scholarships to play college baseball at the moment. I’m 23 years old though and my dream is to play in Japan. Will any independent Japanese Baseball League teams be hosting tryouts in America? I’m from Florida so if they were in the south that would be preferable. I’m really just trying to find the right scouting event to attend.

  3. I can’t get there but I was signed by the Newly formed southwest league of professional baseball January and it never happened: verified at 96 at the Atlantic league tryout. I played JUCO and NBC but having a hard time getting a look because I have no professional experience.

  4. Is there an age limit for any of the leagues? And are there any walk on tryouts? I played on Amateur league here in Pinellas county Florida and attended a Indy pro showcase a couple years ago. I know that I have what it takes to get to the minors and then the major leagues but I keep getting over looked by scouts.

  6. Do not go to the Prospect Dugout tryout in FL. I went this past year and it was awful. They admit way too many people and then don’t know how to organize them all. They tried to force people to leave by requiring you be at the field 7 hours before your game. You’ll be in front of a scout for at most 5 minutes the entire time. Save your money and go to a smaller workout.
